NAIL BITING GAMES AGAINST SHERWOOD

2014-02-21

The Pownal Red Devils and Sherwood Falcons entertained the fans in back to back games Monday and Tuesday night.

The Pownal Red Devils and Sherwood Falcons entertained the fans in back to back games Monday and Tuesday night.  Sherwood outshot Pownal in the first match up and beat Pownal 4 -1.  The Devils scored first with Holden Bradley finding the net assisted by Cole McKeigan. Pownal would maintain the lead for two periods.  The third period was owned by the Falcons who scored all four goals for the win.

Pownal came out with a vengeance in game 2 outshooting Sherwood 24-15.  But it was the goalies’ night with both goaltenders playing outstanding.  Sherwood scored first in the first period despite the Red Devils having many chances. “We just did not bury the puck,” commented Luca Le Clair.  Both goalies blanked the offense in the second period as end to end action delighted the fans. It was not until the last thirty-four seconds of play that Sam Parsons unassisted tied up the game capitalizing on a power play and extra player with the goalie on the bench.   The game would end in a 1-1 tie.  “Great game and what a performance by both goalies,” voiced more than one parent on their way out.

Two more games remain in regular season for the Red Devils.  Pownal faces the Charlottetown Abbies in their final encounter this season on Saturday at Simmons Arena.
