LAST ROAD TRIP TO MORELL

2014-02-11

The Pownal Red Devils visited Morell Sunday night to play King’s County in their last encounter of the regular season.

The Pownal Red Devils visited Morell Sunday night to play King’s County in their last encounter of the regular season.  Pownal opened the first period enjoying a four minute power play but were not able to put the puck in the net.  Caleb Drake started in nets for Pownal and was tested mid-way through the first on a penalty shot. Caleb stood his ground making the save to keep the score at 0.  But it would be in the last 34 seconds of the period when Kings County scored their first.

Despite a strong effort in the first, the Red Devils were not able to hold off Kings County from the scoreboard.  Kings County scored four goals in the second and blanked out the Red Devils from the scoreboard to end the period with a 5 goal lead. Pownal had a few chances but it was one of those nights when they could not seem to score. Gavin Mason, called up for a sick Simon Hughes, played well for the Devils back checking, picking up the passes and getting the passes off.  The third period was much the same as the second. Kings County added another two goals to win the game 7-0.

With five games left in the season, the Red Devils will need to find some magic to ensure their spot in the playoffs. With one point ahead of Sherwood, Pownal can use a win or two.  The Red Devils face the Charlottetown Abbies in Pownal Tuesday night.
