Another close game against the North River Flames ends in a tie as well as the first game against the Montague Norsemen.

North River Flames @ Pownal Red Devils Game Recap:
The Red Devils came out flying to start the first period, putting some nice shots on goal early.  North River got a penalty, followed by a Pownal penalty...but neither team scored on the power play.  Coming back to even strength, the Flames put one in.  Sam Parsons stole the puck mid-ice and went on a breakaway...and came very close to scoring.  North River took another penalty, and the teams went into the second period 1-0.

Drew MacPhee picked his spot and put one in up top on a pass from Parsons and an assist from Lea. Carson Gray had a beauty blocker save, and then another one down low.  David MacLeod took a shot on net, which was picked up by Carson Lund. He banged it in on the door step to put another point on the board.  The two teams took a couple more penalties...and Gray was cool under pressure on the power play. North River scored one bar down, with about a minute left in the second, and took a penalty heading into the third.

With another man in the box, Pownal went  on the 5 on 3 and peppered the North River goalie with shots...but there seemed to be a force field around the net. The final score was 2 - 2...with 30 shots on goal for Pownal and 14 against. One fan had this to say after the game, " the team played really hard for all three periods, it was good to see." Goal scorer Carson Lund said, "I was sitting there and David saw me and I put it in."  Lund said of the game, "It was a really close game, we had a lot of great chances."

Montague Norsemen @ Pownal Red Devils Game Recap:
The first Monday night home game was the first time on the ice for Assistant Captain Noah Brehaut. Brehaut was on the first shift, and got some puck action early, but Montague put the first point on the score board after a lot of action around the net. The away team scored again a few minutes later...but Pownal charged back as David MacLeod put one in from a beauty pass from Gavin Mason.

Pownal killed off a penalty going into the second period, and looked to have put one in the net but it was waived off. Carson Lund took the puck down the ice and sniped one in the inside corner, assisted by Seth MacLeod and Tristan Lea. The rest of the second period saw a lot of nice passing and some great chances, but the score was 2-2 going into the third.

Sam Parsons got a beauty pass from Drew MacPhee and Pownal went ahead a point. Lea had his second assist of the night on that goal. Pownal took a penalty and while Nathan Bruce had some nice saves, Montague was able to tie it up on the power play.

The final score was 3 all...with the Red Devils recording 36 shots on goal while the Norsemen had 10. Lea had this to say of the game, "we passed the puck a lot tonight." After his first game with the team Brehaut said he was a little "rusty" during the first period, adding it was definitely good to be back on the ice and playing with the team.

Next up - the Pownal Markan Hardwood Plus Memorial Tournament that begins today.  Our opening game opponent are the North River Flames where we'll try to break our tying steak and get the W!
