Another Close Game Ends in a Tie in Sherwood

2014-11-08

The first period of the game was a high scoring affair.

The first period of the game was a high scoring affair. Sherwood put a point on the board first early on. Then winger David MacLeod sniped one in from the side on a beauty pass from Carson Lund.  The home team scored...only to tie it up with a goal by Drew MacPhee, assisted by Aiden Arsenault and Gavin Mason.   The Falcons scored their third...and then MacPhee put in a sweet goal up high on the backhand with helpers from Mason and Tristan Lea.

The goal scoring slowed down in the second, with Sherwood putting another point on the board.  Goalie Nathan Bruce made a nice pad save out front and the second period ended with Sherwood up by one.

In the third Sherwood took a penalty early and Owen Brown wired one in from the point unassisted on the power play.  The teams had offsetting penalties, then Pownal went on a 5 on 3 with a few minutes left in the game.  There were two more offsetting penalties with less than a minute to go. Pownal made a big press at the end, but weren't able to put in another one.

The game ended in a 4-4 tie.  The Red Devils had 21 shots on goal and 16 against.  After the game Mason attributed his assists to skating hard and passing, saying Pownal played good as a team today.  MacPhee said while he feels his wrist shot is stronger, his backhand is pretty good and he can "get it up there pretty quick". He felt being in a good position was important to his game today.   The boys will host Sherwood at home next Friday at 7:20.
