With the score board out of commission, everyone's attention was firmly on the ice as the Red Devils took on the Abbies at Simmons Arena Wednesday night. Pownal had a few good looks early, but then Charlottetown scored on a power play in the first period.
The Abbies took a penalty as the frame wrapped up, and then D-man Tristan Lea scored unassisted on the power play at the beginning of the second period to tie it up. Carson Lund deked down the ice from the blue line and put one in, with an assist from Lea. Goalie Nathan Bruce held strong against a lot of pressure around the net, as the team killed off a penalty. Then Lance Kennedy was right on the doorstep and put in a nice one, making it 3-1.
As the third period started, Bruce made a great stick save, followed by a sweet glove save. Sam Parsons sniped in a short handed goal with an assist from Drew MacPhee, as Pownal killed off a penalty. Charlottetown scored their second goal as the game wound down.
With a few seconds left in the game some nice passing almost led to another goal...but the final score was 4-2. The team will get another chance to play the Abbies this Friday during their home opener in at 7:20.
