Red Devils and Falcons tie it up again, this time in Pownal

 

Sherwood came out strong and scored in the first minute of the game Friday night.  But Pownal wouldn't back down, working hard to kill off a penalty. Goalie Carson Gray flashed his glove, showing his awesome hand-eye co-ordination, to stop the puck.  He faced a lot of pressure late in the first, as both teams took penalties that were killed off. 
 

The bench got fired up as the team skated out for the second period. Pownal killed off another penalty and Gray made a nice save down low. Then the Parsons-Mason-MacPhee line made some magic as Sam put one in off nice assists from Gavin and Drew to tie it up. Sherwood scored a few minutes later on the power play. Pownal tried to get an equalizer on a Sherwood penalty, but weren't able to score.

Then Carson Lund sniped one from the side, top shelf to score for the Red Devils with an assist from Will Murley and Aiden Arsenault. Sherwood took a couple more penalties, and while Pownal kicked it into overdrive on the power play, the final score was 2-2. To underline the closeness of the game, the shots on goal were 18 for and against and both teams had four penalties.
 

After the game, Carson Gray came out of the dressing room wearing the hard hat. When asked where his great hand-eye co-ordination comes from Gray said he wasn't sure. This reporter thinks maybe being able to see things clearly is a Gray family trait. Captain Will Murley talked about hitting his back on the boards during the game, then getting back on the ice only to block a shot with his shins - which didn't hurt at all. He said the team played well in their end, keeping open and looking for passes.

The team is now getting ready for the Early Bird with dry land training at AFC in the morning and practice on Sunday and Wednesday.  Next game is against Pictou County in Pownal at 12:20 Friday.
