“Pownal Pride” was strong over the weekend with two of our Bantam A teams at the Tournament in Shediac.

The Pownal Ice Hogs and Bulldogs put in strong efforts to make it an all-Pownal final in the 16-team tournament, with the Ice Hogs coming out on top in a tough-fought 2-0 Championship win.  They out-battled teams from across the Maritimes to make it to the final.

It was an emotional and exciting roller coaster ride for the Ice Hogs on their way to the championship, demonstrating a hard work ethic and never-give-up attitude.   Kent Center scored in the final seconds to tie the Ice Hogs in their first round-robin game, 1-1.  Then the Ice Hogs picked up a 10-1 win over a Riverview team.  In the third round-robin game, the Ice Hogs got two goals in the third period, including one in the final minute with the goalie out, to get the tie they needed to advance to the quarterfinals.  That first playoff game went to a shootout with the Ice Hogs coming out on top over a team from Dieppe-Memramcook.  They advanced to the final with a 4-0 win over Riverview.

The Pownal Bulldogs marched through the round-robin with a great effort in their own end, surrendering only two goals in three games.  The Bulldogs won their opener 3-0 over a Riverview team, and the second game 5-0 over a club from Shediac - Cap Pele.  Their final round robin game was never in doubt as they beat the Sackville Rangers 5-2.  In the quarterfinal, the Bulldogs disposed of the team from Shediac – Cap Pele with a 4-1 win.  Then in the Semi-final, the Bulldogs edged Kent Center 2-1.

Throughout the tournament, both the IceHogs and Bulldogs showed great camaraderie, sportsmanship, spirit and respect as they cheered each other on from the stands when possible.  They left it all on the ice and can be proud of how they represented themselves and the Pownal Minor Hockey association.
